“The crack epidemic and the lasting impact on those it affects is not funny and never was,” Gray wrote. The recipe and ingredients of the fries are not changing. But the company has realized that “to make light of this drug and of addiction contradicts our values of inclusion and community,” Gray wrote. In a message posted on HopCat's website, Mark Gray, the CEO of parent company BarFly, said the name of the fries was initially chosen as a tongue-in-cheek reference to how addictive the fries were, and because of the cracked pepper seasoning on them. Overall, it was some pretty good chili! Good texture, good flavor.INDIANAPOLIS - HopCat is changing the name of its famous fries, saying the name “Crack Fries” doesn’t fit with the inclusive nature the company wants to have. Anyway, I was pretty excited when Alyssa said she wanted to get the Chili! The five different peppers added some smokiness, heat, and earthiness from the Bell’s. I love making it, eating it, bathing it…wait, not the last one. And another! If I were to get this sandy again, I would ask for a little Garlic Aoli on the side to dip in because it really completed this sandwich!Īcross from me, the “5 Pepper” Chili was getting munched on! Winter in Wisconsin means it is Chili season and that is an exciting time in my life! I love chili. They supplemented the sauce with a Garlic Aoli which was a fantastic idea! Altogether, the crunchiness, the spice, the freshness from the veg, and the vinegar cleanse from the pickle led to a great bite. HopCat went in a different direction and came up with their own rub. It is spicy Fried Chicken, traditionally doused in a spicy oil. On top of that, they come with a side of Cosmik Fries! If you don’t know what Nashville Hot Chicken is, you’re losing out. Woooeee, I was excited to try it when Alyssa and I decided to hit up HopCat. Sometime ago, I saw HopCat Madison was coming out with the now, well-known Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. I probably, personally, wouldn’t drive out of the way to grab some though. If you want wings and are close, not a bad place to swing by and munch. They are nice and thick, yet still crispy. Normally, I also prefer soft bread but they have AMAZING tortilla chips. Just as a heads up, their “Fire” sauce has great flavor but for someone that enjoys spice, it has little of that. They did one of my favorite things you can do to Spinach/Artichoke Dip…add some hot sauce! They drizzle their “Fire” sauce on top. Now, you couldn’t necessarily taste the beer but there was a subtle richness that I couldn’t explain and personally, I think it came from the beer. Well, HotCat here decided to amp up this classic with some beer! Their version is the Spinach, Stout, and Artichoke! I would’ve never thought to put a stout in this…ever. It is hard to beat a good Spinach/Artichoke dip. Luckily, HopCat has this bomb ass cider! Tartness from the Apple, Sweetness from the Guava, and a little kick of heat from the Chile! (5.9% ABV, N/A IBU, 3.75/5) Chile Guava (Spiced Cider: Stem Ciders): Alyssa has always been way more into Ciders than beer.Perfect amount of hazy, balanced off with a decent amount of bitter. Mirror Universe (NEIPA: Fair State Brewing Cooperative): The front right beer is a REALLY good NEIPA.From porters to wheats to ciders, HopCat has all styles you know and some you may not. Especially, when I go to a place I plan on reviewing! That instantly takes out close to half of the beers (I drink a lot of beer!). The internal beer snob in myself makes me want try something new, as much as possible. With 100 beers on tap at any given time, it is pretty difficult to make a decision.
